    2012–2016 Series: Kristals

    Kristals

In 2011, I visited Zurich and I studied the cubic sculptures by Alberto Giacometti, especially the “Cube” from 1934. I remembered my pictures with the “geometry of natural crystal” and some of Šíma’s paintings. Although the Giacometti’s sculpture is inspired by the philosopher’s stone, the polyhedron from Dürer’s “Melancholia”, his sculpture is a natural crystal, not a regular polyhedron.

For a longer time I had thought about some interconnection of paintings with an object, either with respect to its shape or not, but also about the shape of an object based on my painting. First, on two small objects by Natalie Perkof I segmented their surfaces in the way that I had already used in my paintings, but I started from the shape of the object. When I was sketching and painting the paintings from the “Zig Zag III” series, the volumes of the polyhedrons and crystals were popping out of the canvas directly. That was one of the reasons why I started to devote to them again. Other possibilities then were spatial solutions and the object presented at the “Zig Zag” exhibition at the White Gallery and subsequently also the object for the exhibition at the Galerie Aspekt.

The latest was a series of drawings and paintings based in drawing on the series “Zig Zag III”, with the difference that in colour I accented the surfaces of the pentagons of the drawing network, most similar to the surfaces of the Gaicometti’s sculpture “Cube”.
